XRP Leads Majors With 4.3% Surge as Fear & Greed Index Hits 57

VVWritten & audited by Vlad Ventura

The broad crypto market is green across the board, but XRP is doing the heavy lifting. With Bitcoin holding above $77,700 and the Fear & Greed Index sitting at 57 — comfortably in 'Greed' territory — this looks less like euphoria and more like a market quietly repricing risk higher.

Market Snapshot

BTC: $77,760.01 (+1.2%) — 24h range $76,390 / $78,367.84

ETH: $2,508.60 (+1.3%)

XRP: $1.3982 (+4.3%) — 24h range $1.3326 / $1.4095

SOL: $101.36 (+2.1%)

DOGE: $0.08412 (+2.1%)

BNB: $722.30 (+0.8%)

Fear & Greed Index: 57 (Greed)

XRP Sets the Pace

Of the six majors tracked, XRP is the standout, up 4.3% and trading at $1.3982 after tagging a 24-hour high of $1.4095. That's a meaningfully larger move than Bitcoin's 1.2% or Ethereum's 1.3%, and it's backed by derivatives data rather than just spot enthusiasm — Bybit's XRPUSDT perpetual shows a near-identical 4.135% 24-hour gain with open interest of $231.7 million and a funding rate of 0.0001. A positive but modest funding rate on a 4%+ move is a healthy signal: longs are paying a small premium, not an extreme one, which suggests this isn't a crowded trade yet.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Grind Higher, Not Overheated

BTC's derivatives picture tells a similar story of restraint. The BTCUSDT funding rate sits at just 0.000055 despite $2.75 billion in open interest and a 24-hour price move of 1.275%. ETH shows the same pattern — a 0.0001 funding rate against $1.97 billion in open interest and a 1.139% price gain. Neither market is showing the kind of funding-rate spike that typically precedes a leverage flush, which is arguably the most important thing this dataset tells us: this rally has room to run before it becomes fragile.

The anomaly worth watching: NEARUSDT posted the largest 24-hour gain in the entire funding-rate dataset at 5.324%, yet its funding rate is negative at -0.00002. That means short positions are technically getting paid on a token that just outperformed every other asset here — a setup that can precede a short squeeze if the move keeps extending against positioned bears.

Where the Divergences Are

Not everything is participating. TRXUSDT is down 0.235% over 24 hours with a negative funding rate of -0.000121, and ARBUSDT has fallen 2.46% even though its funding rate remains a positive 0.0001 — a mismatch that suggests longs are still paying up on a token that's losing ground. APTUSDT is essentially flat, down 0.119%. AVAXUSDT's funding rate is also negative at -0.000003, though its price is still up 1.914% on the day, a milder version of the same skepticism visible in NEAR's setup.

The Bigger Picture

A Fear & Greed reading of 57 is notable mostly for what it isn't: it's not the 80-plus 'Extreme Greed' print that usually accompanies blow-off tops, and it's well clear of the fear territory that marks capitulation. Paired with generally low, positive funding rates across BTC, ETH, and SOL, the data points to a market that's grinding higher on genuine demand rather than leverage-driven momentum. XRP's outperformance, in particular, looks like a case of a specific catalyst rather than broad rotation — its move is roughly triple the pace of BTC and ETH, and the derivatives market is confirming rather than fighting that move.

For traders, the setup argues for watching funding-rate divergences like NEAR's and ARB's more closely than the headline price action. When price and funding disagree this sharply, one of them is about to be proven wrong.
